ECN strives to contribute to the following goals:

  • Support communities, civil society organizations and response organizations to prepare against and combat outbreaks of EVD.
  • Equip policymakers and other advocates with communication materials and policy and preparedness guidelines to control the spread of EVD, and promote prevention, treatment and support.
  • Increase access to up to date safety information and quality counseling and training materials for health care workers and frontline responders.

How ECN Works

ECN curates essential, evidence informed tools and resources to help health and development professionals use social and behavior change (SBC), risk communication and community engagement (RCCE) to address Ebola preparedness and outbreak management through four key strategies:

  1. Providing clear and engaging communication of the facts about prevention, treatment, care and support.
  2. Reducing stigma against those with Ebola and their loved ones, as well as those supporting the response.
  3. Addressing Ebola related myths and misconceptions.
  4. Sharing promising approaches from around the world aligned with updated and emerging guidelines for Ebola prevention, treatment, and care.

Featured Resources

Resources in the Featured Section are those our team of curators believe will be of high interest to practitioners and feature newly developed or revised materials used in response to current Ebola outbreaks.

The ECN originated under the coordination of the Health Communication Capacity Collaborative project led by Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs (CCP) in response to the 2014 West African Ebola outbreak. The ECN is now curated and maintained by Breakthrough ACTION and supported by contributions from those working globally and locally in the response to Ebola.

Breakthrough ACTION is a five-year cooperative agreement funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to lead their SBC programming around the world. Breakthrough ACTION is a partnership led by CCP in collaboration with Save the Children, ThinkPlace, ideas42, Camber Collective, International Center for Research on Women, and Viamo.
